You said you’d be fine.

You said you'd be fine.

You said you’d be fine.
That you’d stick around.
That you’d let it go.
That being friends was enough for you.

Perhaps whatever had to be “let go” was much more painful than the person you are speaking to thought it ever could be. Perhaps they wanted you so much and loved you so greatly that they wanted to be friends so they could still be around you, still talk to you, still have you in their lives and they be in yours. Maybe that all turned out to be impossible. They love you too much to just be friends…it ISN’T enough. Your accusation is SO harsh, it sounds as if you love them more than you thought; that you miss them in YOUR life. Try to talk to them. Get them to talk openly, bare their soul and get it the real grit. But you have to be willing to do that as well. Maybe, just maybe, you will settle things. Your secret is so emotional, it sounds as if you are BOTH hurting a great deal. It is worth a try!!

This has happened to me, too, and I know how much it hurts. And I don’t have anything to say that doesn’t sound cliche. Love is hard, in both friendship and romance. Forgiving is hard in both, too. Both take so much strength and trust and pain. I hope you can get your friend back, with healing for both of you. I hope I can get my friend back, too.

It’s always a lie, told to stay close to someone you can’t have but can’t let go of.

It’s a lie you want so badly to believe.

I’ve done it before. I’m doing it right now.

But eventually your heart is ready to move on.
